Saudi Arabian Railway Resmi Jadi Operator KA Tunggal di Arab Saudi
[21/2] Perusahaan operator KA nasional Arab Saudi, Saudi Arabian Railway (SAR), mengumumkan pihaknya secara resmi mengoperasikan layanan KA di Arab Saudi. Hal tersebut disampaikan oleh pihak SAR melalui rilis resminya di fanpage mereka pada Rabu (17/2) kemarin. SAR menjadi operator tunggal layanan KA di Arab Saudi setelah operator KA lainnya yang juga milik pemerintah yakni Saudi Railway Organisation (SRO) dilebur ke dalam SAR.

Selain itu tiga lintas yang dioperasikan SRO, yakni Lintas SRO Dammam-Riyadh, Lintas Kargo Pelabuhan King Abdul Aziz-Riyadh Dry Port, serta KA Cepat Haramain operasionalnya diserahkan kepada SAR.
Selain peleburan perusahaan dan penyerahan operasional, sarana KA seperti lokomotif, kereta, dan gerbong milik SRO diserahkan kepada SAR. Seperti dikutip dari EIN News, peleburan dua operator KA milik Pemerintah Arab Saudi ini sudah mendapat restu dari Raja Salman bin Abdul Aziz serta Pangeran Mohammad bin Salman.
Menteri Transportasi Arab Saudi sekaligus Direktur Utama SRO Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser berharap peleburan ini dapat meningkatkan efisiensi, kapasitas angkut baik penumpang maupun barang, serta keselamatan perjalanan KA. Terlebih saat ini Arab Saudi tengah membangun dua jalur KA baru yakni Saudi Landbridge (Riyadh-Jeddah) dan Gulf Cooperation Council Railway di pesisir Teluk Persia. (RED/BTS)
