Korail Luncurkan Kereta Cepat KTX-Ieum di Rute Seoul-Gyeoungju
[8/1] Di tahun yang baru, armada baru dari Korail yaitu KTX-Ieum (KTX-이음, KTX-Connect) yang juga dikenal sebagai EMU-250 meluncur. Setelah sebelumnya telah dikirimkan dari pabrik Hyundai Rotem pada 2019 lalu, Korail meluncurkan armada kereta cepat terbaru mereka pada 4 Januari 2021. Peluncuran ini dilakukan setelah armada ini berhasil melakukan uji coba di lintas Jungang segmen Wonju-Jecheon yang dihadiri oleh presiden Korea Selatan dan sejumlah pejabat negara lainnya.
Dilansir dari Railjournal, kereta cepat yang dikembangkan dari prototipe HEMU-430X buatan Hyundai Rotem ini adalah yang pertama menggunakan distributed traction di Korail. Kereta cepat sebelumnya seperti KTX-Sancheon menggunakan power car di tiap-tiap ujung rangkaian. Armada kereta cepat baru ini diharapkan memberikan akselerasi dan deselerasi yang lebih baik dibandingkan armada pendahulunya, mengurangi jarak pengereman dan meningkatkan performa di tikungan. Kecepatan maksimal reguler dari KTX-Ieum ini adalah 260 km/jam.
Sementara itu, kapasitas dari armada kereta cepat terbaru ini adalah 381 orang, atau 18 orang lebih banyak dari KTX-Sancheon. Armada ini juga memiliki persambungan ganda yang mengurangi dampak kebisingan bagi penggunanya. Selain itu armada ini juga memiliki sistem hiburan, colokan listrik, dan wi-fi gratis, serta ramp pada pintu untuk meningkatkan aksesibilitas.
