Kereta Komuter Chicago Luncurkan Kereta Khusus Sepeda
[7/11] Perusahaan operator kereta komuter di Chicago, Amerika Serikat, Metra, memperlihatkan kereta sepeda yang rencananya mulai dioperasikan pada hari ini (7/11). Seperti dilansir dari rilis persnya, pihak Metra mengatakan ini merupakan jawaban atas permintaan para goweser yang menginginkan penambahan jumlah sepeda yang boleh diangkut menggunakan kereta.
Kereta yang digunakan adalah kereta double decker di mana di lantai bawah kereta 24 kursi penumpang dihilangkan. Sebagai gantinya, 16 tempat penyimpanan sepeda dipasang di lantai bawah kereta untuk pengguna sepeda menempatkan sepedanya. Sementara di lantai atas kereta, bangku kereta tetap dipertahankan untuk penumpang naik.
Livery kereta sepeda Metra pun dibedakan dengan kereta biasa. Jika rangkaian kereta milik Metra berwarna silver, kereta sepeda ini diwarnai biru untuk membedakannya dari kereta lainnya. Penumpang diperbolehkan membawa sepeda biasa maupun sepeda listrik menggunakan kereta sepeda ini.
Rencananya kereta sepeda ini akan dioperasikan di Jalur Milwaukee District North. Dipilihnya jalur ini dikarenakan banyaknya pengguna sepeda di wilayah yang dilintasi oleh jalur ini. Pengoperasian kereta sepeda ini sebelumnya telah mundur dari rencana sebelumnya pada awal 2020.
Pada Senin (9/11) mendatang, Metra juga akan melakukan uji coba relaksasi batas angkutan sepeda di seluruh 11 jalur yang dioperasikannya. Tujuannya untuk melihat animo masyarakat dalam pengoperasian kereta sepeda ini.(RED/BTS)
