Meski jaraknya tak begitu jauh, namun dua perlintasan ini memiliki nomor urut yang longkap cukup jauh yakni dari 78 ke 81. Atau contoh lain adalah dua perlintasan yang lokasinya bersebelahan di Menteng, Jakarta Pusat yakni perlintasan Jl. Sukabumi dan perlintasan Jl. Teuku Cik Ditiro.
Perlintasan Jl. Sukabumi memiliki nomor perlintasan 5 sedangkan Jl. Teuku Cik Ditiro memiliki nomor perlintasan 3. Tidak ada perlintasan dengan nomor perlintasan 4 di antara keduanya.
Lantas bagaimana kah hal tersebut bisa terjadi? Semua ini bermula dari basis data atau database yang dibuat oleh perusahaan kereta api Hindia Belanda, Staatspoorwegen.
Ketika Indonesia masih dijajah Belanda, Staatspoorwegen melakukan pendataan pada perlintasan kereta api sebidang yang ada di jalurnya. Perlintasan yang ada didata dan ditetapkan sebagai perlintasan resmi oleh Staatspoorwegen. Tak hanya perlintasan yang berada di jalan besar, perlintasan yang hanya berupa jalan setapak pun juga ditetapkan sebagai perlintasan resmi.
Seiring berjalannya waktu dan pesatnya pembangunan, perlintasan resmi yang hanya berupa jalan setapak tersebut perlahan menghilang dan tak terlihat lagi bentuknya sehingga hanya menyisakan perlintasan resmi di jalan besar. Meski sudah menghilang, namun perlintasan tersebut masih terdaftar sebagai perlintasan resmi. Hal tersebutlah yang menyebabkan nomor urut perlintasan menjadi longkap atau bahkan acak.
Lalu bagaimana dengan perlintasan resmi dengan tambahan alfabet di belakang nomornya? Misalnya seperti perlintasan Jl. Raya Gaperi dengan nomor 26C dan perlintasan Stasiun Cilebut dengan nomor 26N.
Perlintasan resmi dengan alfabet pada nomor perlintasannya posisinya berada di antara dua perlintasan yang sudah terlebih dulu ada sehingga ditambahkan alfabet di belakangnya karena nomor urut sebelum dan setelahnya sudah digunakan.
