India Luncurkan Rangkaian Kereta Semi-Cepat Buatan Dalam Negerinya
[17/2]. Setelah melalui pengembangan selama beberapa tahun, akhirnya rangkaian kereta semi-cepat buatan India mulai melaju di atas rel baja. Jumat kemarin rangkaian kereta semi-cepat pertama buatan India yang diberi nama Train 18 resmi beroperasi melayani penumpang. Diresmikannya perjalanan kereta semi-cepat ini ditandai dengan pelepasan keberangkatan yang dilakukan secara langsung oleh Perdana Menteri India Narendra Modi.
Sebanyak 16 unit KRL dioperasikan melayani perjalanan Delhi – Varanasi sebagai KA Vande Bahrat Express. Terdapat 2 kelas pada perjalanan Vande Bahrat Express yakni 14 kereta kelas standar dengan kapasitas 78 tempat duduk dan 2 kereta kelas eksekutif dengan kapasitas 56 tempat duduk. Namun sayangnya perjalanan perdana kereta semi-cepat ini tidaklah mulus. Sehari setelah diluncurkan kereta semi-cepat ini mengalami gangguan.
Rangkaian Train 18 Vande Bahrat Express mengalami gangguan di Stasiun Chamrola, sekitar 200 kilometer dari Delhi, setelah kembali dari Varansi kemarin sekitar pukul 6 pagi waktu India. Gangguan ini mengakibatkan kereta hanya bisa berjalan dengan kecepatan 40 km/jam. Penumpang kemudian dialihkan ke perjalanan kereta api lainnya.

Sebelum terhenti di Chamrola, listrik di kereta sempat mati dan tercium bau asap di dalam kereta. Selain itu ketika kereta menambah kecepatan, suara bising terdengar di dalam kereta.
Rangkaian Train 18 diproduksi oleh Integral Coach Manufacture (ICF) yang bermarkas di Chenai. Sebanyak 80% komponen KRL dibuat di India. Rangkaian KRL Train 18 dapat dipacu hingga kecepatan 160 km/jam dan digadang-gadang sebagai kereta tercepat di India untuk saat ini. Rangkaian ini dilengkapi dengan pendingin udara cerdas, lampu LED untuk penerangan, display informasi berbasis GPS, toilet dengan tangki bio-vacuum, WiFi, dan stop kontak di setiap kursi.
Selain untuk rute Delhi – Varanasi, rangkaian Train 18 juga rencananya akan dioperasikan di jalur New Delhi – Habibganj.
