[22/04/2016] Sebagaimana dihimpun dari Reuters, sebuah KA Penumpang milik operator nasional KA Korea Selatan Korail, Mugunghwa, anjlok di petak rel yang sedang dilakukan perawatan ketika akan memasuki stasiun Yulchon, dekat kota Yeosu, Provinsi Jeolla Selatan, sekitar 350km di selatan ibukota Korea Selatan, Seoul pada pukul 3.40 pagi Jumat 22 April waktu setempat.
Lokomotif yang diketahui adalah Korail Seri 7300 dan empat dari tujuh kereta pada rangkaian KA ini anjlok dengan kondisi lokomotif terguling ke sebelah kiri rel dan menghantam tiang LAA, sedangkan kereta pertama sampai berbalik arah, dan kereta kedua dalam keadaan miring. Kereta ketiga dan keempat keluar dari rel tetapi tetap berdiri tegak.

Sang masinis meninggal dunia di tempat kejadian, sementara asisten masinis mengalami luka serius dan harus dilarikan ke rumah sakit. Tujuh orang lainnya yang merupakan penumpang dari KA tersebut hanya mengalami luka ringan. Secara keseluruhan, terdapat 27 orang dalam rangkaian KA ekspres malam yang berangkat dari Seoul pada Kamis malam lalu, terdiri dari 22 penumpang, tiga awak kabin, dan dua kru lokomotif.
Menurut Korean Herald, pihak Korail telah mengerahkan 200 pegawai ke TKP untuk memperbaiki jalan rel dan menyewa bus carter untuk mengalihkan penumpang KA selama perjalanan KA di wilayah Yeosu dan sekitarnya dihentikan sementara. Rencananya layanan KA baru akan dilanjutkan pada Sabtu pagi waktu setempat.
Sementara menurut kantor berita Yonhap, pejabat Korail di TKP menuturkan bahwa kemungkinan kecelakaan terjadi akibat rangkaian berjalan terlalu cepat ketika memasuki tikungan. Akan tetapi, pihak kementrian perhubungan Korea Selatan menolak untuk berkomentar mengenai penyebab kejadian ini, dengan beralasan bahwa investigasi masih berlangsung.
Kejadian ini menambah panjang rentetan anjlokan KA di Korea Selatan setelah sebelumnya terjadi anjlokan KA barang di dekat stasiun Sintanjin di Dajeon bulan lalu. Menurut statistik Otoritas Keselamatan Transportasi Korea (Semacam KNKT), telah terjadi rata-rata 3,5 anjlokan pertahun di Korea Selatan sejak 2001.
